The story
Before Africa wrote books, Africa spoke proverbs.
For centuries, our grandmothers and grandfathers compressed entire lifetimes of wisdom into single sentences — passed from fireside to fireside, generation to generation. But the firesides are going quiet, and the generation that needs this wisdom most is listening to something else: music.
So we put the wisdom inside the music. Songs of Proverbs transforms Africa's great proverbs into original songs — one proverb, one song — carried by highlife, the legendary sound of Ghana, reborn for a new generation. Our growing catalogue already spans 35 songs, drawing proverbs from across the continent's 54 nations.
Preserve the wisdom
Each song carries one proverb — its country, its meaning, its lesson — so the knowledge of the elders survives in a form no one forgets: a melody.
Revive highlife
Highlife once made all of West Africa dance. We are bringing it back as the living vessel that carries the whole continent's voice.
Perform it live
Dancers, drummers and a griot-style narrator bring the proverbs to the stage — at festivals, conferences, weddings and cultural gatherings.
